UPDATE 6/12/2017

As you noticed, I was not able to open the Survival server as planned last weekend. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to devote to the server at the moment, so things are progressing much slower than I originally thought they would. Aside from my lack of time and not having everything ready for release, there are a few other things that are affecting the release of the server:

1) 1.12 was just officially released. I would like to have Survival running 1.12, which means waiting for a couple weeks for plugin updates.

2) The generator that creates all the fancy new biomes has a major update coming soon which is supposed to greatly improve some things about world generation. Since this will be the primary world of the server for a long time, I think it is worth waiting a bit longer.

So, I have decided to hold off on the release of the Survival server for an undetermined amount of time. I know some people may not be happy with this, but the other choice would be to release a half-ready, inferior server, and I don't want to do that.

That being said, Mixette has come up with a good idea for another event (like the beta ones we ran before) to give players a chance to satisfy their itch for survival while letting us work to improve the server for final release. I will make a new post with details for this event once they are all worked out.

It's time.

In a little less than 3 weeks on Friday, June 2nd, the Survival server will be officially released.

The beta server will continue to run for another 2 weeks, until Sunday, May 28th. After that, the final preparations will begin for setting up the server. Here are some answers to some possible questions you may have about the survival server. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask in this thread and I will try to answer them.

Q: What happened to the other Beta events?

A: I was hoping to have some more beta events to test things before the final release, but I am concerned about letting the Beta go on for too long and people getting burned out before the real server is even released. I decided I already have a lot of good feedback about most of the important things. I will probably add some final stuff to test during this next week for some final feedback.

Q: What time will the Server be released?

A: I can't say for sure, but it will likely be that Friday morning (server time, which is EST). It's possible that I may have to restart the server a few times or bring it down for a while if there are any unforeseen problems in the beginning, but everything should be up and ready to go by Friday evening.

Q: Will I be able to keep my stuff from the Beta?

A: No, all worlds and characters will be wiped clean for the official opening. Achievements, Slimefun unlocks, MCMMO skills, and any other progress made during the beta will be reset. You will keep any titles gained from beta and you will be able to open the boxes you got as rewards.

Q: Will there be any changes from what I experienced in the Beta?

A: Yes, an entirely new map will be generated that is completely different than the current one. Many things will be altered based on feedback, and new things will be added that were not in the beta map. I will be working over the next few weeks to change as much as I can, but it is possible some things do not make it in until after the server is released.

Some new things have been added to the survival beta this weekend for testing. Please take some time to try out the following:

Survival Hub
It became clear after the first round of testing that we need some kind of hub area for players to meet up, trade, rest, shop, or whatever. However, I want to keep the initial struggle in the wilderness that is a key part of the new player experience of this server.

So, my plan is to make obsidian portals (vanilla nether portals) lead you to the hub world instead of to the nether. So a players first objective when starting on the server will be to make a portal and gain access to the hub. The hub will contain the portal to the nether, among other things. Once you access the hub for the first time, you will be able to teleport there whenever you want.

So to access the nether you make a standard portal -> travel to the hub -> enter the nether portal in the hub.

I may also add an objective that a player must complete first before being able to enter the nether (like traveling to the center of the normal world).

New Nether

This nether uses a special generator with new terrain and objects. The nether currently has 4 distinct biomes: mountains, obsidian forest, lava ocean, and flat lands. Here is an album with some images for you to take a look.

There is still a lot of tweaking that needs to be done, but the main thing to be aware of is that monsters will get stronger as you go further away from the spawn (the inverse of what happens in the normal world). Some things that are not in now but that will be in by the final version:

  • You will be able to setup claims once you get a certain distance away from the center.
  • The center part of the nether (where you cant setup claims) will be regenerated every so often (perhaps once a month) to keep things fresh.
  • More structures will be added, and there will be loot added to them.
Magic System

There is a new magic system that has been added. Get your first wand by visiting the middle of the map and right-clicking on the ender chest. In the final version of the server (if we decide to use the magic system), my plan is to give the player their first wand when they reach the hub.

There is a lot of tweaking that needs to be done with the magic system, but let me know your general feelings about it and if you find any bugs.

Welcome to the new website!

After many hours of work we are happy to unveil our new website, forums, and server shop!

We are using entirely new forum software, so you will need to register a new account on the website in order to make posts the forums (Your Enjin account will no longer be used). We are still working on setting everything up, so please be patient!
